So Ching Yee FYP: idea development ( i )

Within this two week I am thinking of how to fix a core problem of my FYP:

The original setting is large and different signal parts e.g. screen, lighting,sound... are involved.

It is still too difficult to transfer my core message without my explanation of the whole concept.

Although it is a personal work, a good artwork should have their ability to tell something by themselves.

Then I realize the problem is :

I try to explain and give too much on the work over the power from artwork itself.

The work is not clean enough.

Therefore, I revised the dairy I wrote during these 3 months in Beijing:

which part is the most important thing I want to record and express.

每次感覺到老朋友的來臨都叫我十分無奈;不是我不想改變,只是在客觀環境中,我走不出這困局。

"rigid and hard, we cannot breakthrough with our limitation"

grandpa's health limitation;uncle's health limitation;my communication limitation;

--> isolation from the others

Based on this core feeling, in my new direction,I will emphasize on the core part of the artwork only--- the concrete wheelchair sculpture.

Without other elements, it can be placed anywhere instead of a specific setting and environment,

which allow audience have their own reading imposed from the work.

My ideal plan is to scale up the concrete wheelchair with steel, approximately to 2m height to standout the topic. with a concrete stage which surface is glue and sticky state concrete, the wheels are sinked into concrete as shown in my design draft.

Difficulties:

1. Technique and place. So far, I still cannot find both technique and place which allows me to do such a large scale concrete work,(e.g. can find place but do not have related technique and tools, vice versa)

but 1:1 scale production with concrete and steel is possible to make in HK.

2. Time . There are some parts for sculpture making ( of course I am not sure how many steps coz I don't have experience) but only one month left．

Schedule from 13/6 - 15/ 7:

14/6- 15/6

-find the techniques and tools required in both Beijing and Hong Kong
- materials testing in Beijing

20/6

- return HK and start sculpture making.

1. It can be a series of photographs with different situations and scenes
